Computer Lab Consultant
Salary Range: $9.00 - $10.00 hourly

Computer Lab Consultants (CLC) practice their computer skills and learn new ones by assisting University of Arizona students, staff and faculty in using the equipment and software available at our four General Computer Lab locations on campus. Consultants answer questions about Microsoft Office applications, SFTP, SSH and web browsers. In addition CLCs provide assistance to students, staff and faculty by demonstrating how to register their laptop for campus Internet access and providing referrals for helpdesk services. If you have two years experience using Windows or Macintosh hardware/software, the Microsoft Office suite, and familiarity with the file transfer protocols such as SFTP and SSH, along with good verbal and written communication skills, then OSCR is looking for an energetic and responsible individual like you to be a Computer Lab Consultant.

Multimedia Consultant
Salary Range: $9.50 - $10.50 hourly

Multimedia Consultants (MC) provide technical support and client referrals in OSCR's multimedia labs and classrooms. MCs also provide in-depth consultation for clients on project development, act as the first line of support for troubleshooting technical problems on a variety of multimedia applications. As a consultant you will be given the responsibility of opening and closing facilities following service location-specific procedures, you will be expected to increase your knowledge of multimedia software and your interpersonal client assistance skills. If you have good customer service skills, a baseline set of technical skills with various operating systems, at least one area of multimedia specialty, and good verbal and written communication skills, you could be our next Multimedia Consultant!

Operational Lead
Salary Range: $10.50 - $11.50 hourly

Operational Leads (OL) practice leadership, supervisory and management skills by acting as student supervisors. OSCR Career Staff work closely with OLs to enable them to coach and train student staff on customer support methods, student staff policies, location policies, and equipment and facility maintenance procedures. Students in this position also act as advocates between student staff and OSCR Career Staff by keeping track of OSCR student staff resources, technology and training needs necessary to fulfill their job. OLs need to have excellent customer service, leadership and troubleshooting skills, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, excellent Internet research skills, at least two years experience using Windows or Macintosh hardware/software, basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. OLs must also be available 10 days immediately following Spring semester for leadership training. It would also be helpful if you have held a valid United States drivers license for the past two years. If you meet these qualifications and are a detail-oriented self-starter who can multitask, then OSCR wants you as an Operational Lead!

Technical Lead

Salary Range: $10.50 - $11.50 hourly

Technical Leads (TL) provide in-depth support for technical problems and projects in a variety of locations on campus including the Manuel Pacheco Integrated Learning Center (ILC) and (OSCR's) labs and classrooms. TLs assist OSCR's technical staff with system administration tasks and computer troubleshooting and problem resolution. TLs should have extensive experience with Windows and Macintosh operating systems, advanced knowledge of computer hardware and networking components, the ability to troubleshoot and the desire to work in a cool and exciting place. It would also be really helpful if you have held a valid United States drivers license for the past two years.

Technical Support Assistants (TSA) provide administrative support to UITS departments, including appointment scheduling and client management. Technical Consultant
Salary Range: $10.50 - $11.50 hourly

Technical Consultants are responsible for providing hardware, software, networking, and account assistance to UA students, faculty and staff. This support is provided via phone, email, remote assistance and in person. Technical Consultants should have extensive experience with Windows and Macintosh operating systems, expertise dealing with virus and spyware problems, advanced knowledge of computer hardware and networking components, and the ability to troubleshoot and support a wide-range of software applications. Technical Writer 

  • Salary Range for Undergrads: $9.00 - $11.00 hourly 
  • Salary Range for Grad Students: $11.25 – $20.00 hourly 

This is a paid part-time student position (not to exceed 15 hours a week). This individual will work under the direction of the Client Services Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating:

  • Web content (How-Tos, tutorials, FAQs, etc.) related to campus end user service and support
  • Content for the UAnswers online searchable knowledgebase
  • Other writing projects, as assigned

Candidate must demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the English language in order to write, proof, and edit content. This position is a great opportunity to hone research, writing and editorial skills for an organization with an IT focus.

Webmaster
Salary Range: $8.00 - $12.00 hourly

Webmasters are responsible for the UITS web presence. This includes the creation and maintenance of database-driven dynamic content and tools, such as a reservation system and calendar. In addition, UITS webmasters maintain the UITS internal site filled with tools used by the UITS staff. Webmasters have great flexibility in setting work schedules around your availability. If you have experience with HTML, CSS, template engines, object-oriented programming, source code control and relational databases, then UITS wants you to join our development team.

Programmer
Salary Range: $8.00 - $15.00 hourly

UITS programmers work on designing software using object-oriented design principals. As senior members of the development team, programmers act as mentors to the UITS webmasters. Just like the webmasters, programmers have great flexibility in setting work schedules around your availability. Programmers should have demonstrable expertise with PHP and MySQL. UITS Research Computing Student Positions
 
Technical Writer
 
  • Salary Range: $11.00 - $13.00 hourly 
 
This is a paid part-time student position (not to exceed 15-20 hours a week).  This individual will work under the direction of the Assistant Director of Research Computing to assist with various content development projects.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Interviewing various researchers across the University of Arizona campus community who utilize high performance computing for their research data collection.
  • Develop, create, edit, and upload research computing focused articles for the Research Computing website rc.arizona.edu and digital signage displays near Research Data Center and Computer Center entry.
  • Develop, create, edit, and upload articles for the Research Computing Governance Committee (RCGC) website.
  • Take photos of researcher(s) and other relevant materials.
  • Create other writing projects as assigned.

Candidate must demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the English language in order to write, proof, and edit content; knowledge about general campus IT and research involving the use of high performance computing is a plus but a willingness to learn will be necessary.  This position is a great opportunity to hone research, writing and editorial skills for an organization with an IT and campus research focus. Candidates must also be currently enrolled at the UA with at least six (6) academic units.

This position can be designated as a valid internship for credit toward a specific learning objective if interested. The internship must be within the candidate’s area of study.

UITS Immersive Virtual Reality and Scientific Visualization

Position Description:

  • Salary Range: $11.00 - $13.00 hourly

This is a paid part-time student position (not to exceed 15-20 hours a week).  This individual will work with the Research Computing Support group to support immersive virtual reality, scientific visualization, and 3D computer graphics applications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support for campus researchers and students utilizing the university’s immersive virtual reality laboratory, AZ-LIVE (http://azlive.arizona.edu)
  • Work with various researchers across the University of Arizona campus community who utilize various 3D computer graphics and scientific visualization software (http://rc.arizona.edu/visualization-consulting/home)
  • Develop software utilities and/or scripts that enhance the immersive and scientific visualization capabilities supported by the UITS Research Computing Support group
  • Provide demonstrations and training for the hardware and software utilized in AZ-LIVE and scientific visualization

Candidate must demonstrate an excellent knowledge of 3D computer graphics software and 3D file formats, scientific visualization techniques, and interactive virtual reality technologies. Experience with high performance computing and visualizing large data sets are a plus, but a willingness to learn will be necessary.  This position is a great opportunity to work with a variety of campus research groups creating and developing customized visualizations for a wide range of data. It also offers a unique opportunity to work in an immersive virtual reality laboratory using 3D game engine techniques in an interactive, collaborative environment.  Candidates must also be currently enrolled at the UA with at least six (6) academic units.

This position can be designated as a valid internship for credit toward a specific learning objective if interested. The internship must be within the candidate’s area of study.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with users to convert their 3D data/models into software that can be run in AZ-LIVE. This software includes but is not limited to Unity3D, OpenSceneGraph, ArcGIS, Visit, and ParaView.
  • Provide programming and/or scripting support for various scientific visualization software. Possible programming languages include C, C++, C#, and Java. Scripting languages include Javascript, Python, and MatLab.
  • Provide training and assistance with multiple 3D computer graphics and scientific visualization software programs. 3D Studio Max, Maya, Blender3D, Sketchup, Revit, Amira, Imaris, Reconstruct, and MatLab are a sample of some of the programs that we support.
  • Complete a monthly report of activities and issues related to research computing and scientific visualization.
